What process will I need to follow in order to demolish a building in Modesto?
The demolition process for any building or structure in the city of Modesto is as follows:
Submit an application for clearance to:
San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District (SJVAPCD)

Modesto, CA 95356
Once you have obtained clearance from SJVAPCD, you must apply for a demolition permit. When submitting your application, include the following:
- Proof of insurance
- Proof that your utilities have been (or will be) disconnected by the time of demolition
- Clearance from SJVAPCD
- Proof of all necessary bonds

Once your permit application and plans have been approved, pay your fees, obtain your permit, and get to work!
Who will handle the demolition permit process—me or my contractor?
Oftentimes, your contractor will be more than willing to obtain the permit on your behalf. However, not all contractors do this, so make sure you discuss this with them when reaching out to contractors for estimates.
