Demolition Tips for Cincinnati, OH

Why do I need a building permit?

Cincinnati (Hamilton County) requires that a building permit is issued for all work performed on any residential or commercial building or structure. A permit is proof that you have taken the necessary steps to ensure that the building or structure you intend to work on does not contain hazardous or faulty materials that could put you, the contractor you hire to complete the job, or other people in danger.

Who will need to obtain the permit?

It depends. In most cases, the owner of the property will be responsible for obtaining all necessary permits prior to the job being completed. However, the contractor, property agent, or architect may also obtain the permit as long as they have a signed affidavit from the property owner.

How long will it take to receive my permit after the application has been filed?

In most normal circumstances, residential permits are approved 6 days from they day the application is filed. In the case of a commercial building permit, please allow at least 16 days for approval.

How much does demolition cost?

While demolition costs vary for a number of reasons—like project type, project size, where you live, and more—knowing the average cost of your specific type of project will help you know what a good deal looks like.
