Demolition Tips for Houston, TX
How do I get started with my Houston demolition project?
The first step toward getting your Houston demolition project started is figuring out what you want done, then you'll need to start looking for the right person for the job. Your demolition contractor can help you make a number of important decisions about your project, especially if there’s something you aren’t sure about.
Your contractor can help you:
- Acquire necessary permits
- Schedule inspections
- Tear down or remove what you need
- Haul away debris
However, not all contractors handle the entire process for you, so make sure you clarify this with each contractor you speak with. One company’s price may include more than the next.
Does the city of Houston require permits for demolition?
Yes. Houston's Department of Public Works & Engineering publishes Building Demolition Guidelines that lay out permit requirements for properties within city limits. Both residential properties and commercial buildings require a permit. A separate permit is necessary for each building being demolished, whether in whole or in part.
How much will my demolition permit cost?
According to the City Fee Schedule, a standard demolition permit currently costs $79.82 for a one-story building or structure, plus $39.91 for each additional story. This price outline is current as of 2018 and is subject to change.
