Are necessary permits before beginning demolition?
In Salt Lake City, any residential one-story detached building or structure 200 square feet or smaller does not require a permit for demolition. Any detached structure exceeding 200 feet (and any attached structure) will require a permit in order to demolish it. Salt Lake City requires the following information in order for a demolition permit application to be successfully processed:
- Water, sewer, and electrical disconnect letters from your utility company
- A gas disconnect letter (if applicable)
- A letter of approval from the Utah Division of Air Quality
- A letter of approval from the Salt Lake County Health Department
In some cases, the demolition contractor might insist on pulling the necessary permits for a job, but this is not always the case. Having your demolition contractor obtain the permits for you can prove to be a much more stress-free experience, so make sure you confirm with the contractor(s) you speak with whether or not they will handle the permitting process.
How can I get the best demolition price?
